The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has activated contingency measures to protect the country’s transmission network as Severe Tropical Storm Opong moves closer.
The grid operator said it has taken steps to “minimize the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Opong on transmission operations and facilities.” These include securing communications systems, ensuring the availability of critical repair materials, and deploying line crews in advance to speed up restoration if damage occurs.
The measures are part of NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP), which sets out standard protocols for storm readiness and facility protection.
“NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP) prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbances,” the company said.
How effective do you think current grid resilience measures are against stronger and more frequent storms?
