Petron first oil firm accredited as DOE-certified LPG training institution

Petron Corporation has secured accreditation from the Department of Energy (DOE) as an official training institution for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector—the first oil company in the Philippines to earn such distinction.

The certification, handed over on September 25 at the DOE head office in Taguig, was received by Petron Vice President for Industrial Sales Virgilio Centeno from DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad.

“We are honored to be recognized as a center of safety and excellence in the LPG sector, an industry we are proud to lead through our trusted flagship brands, Petron Gasul and Fiesta Gas. This certification affirms our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality in every aspect of our LPG business,” Centeno said.

The accreditation allows Petron to certify qualified service persons (QSPs) from its refinery, terminals, haulers, dealers, and retail network. It also strengthens compliance with the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry Regulation Act (LIRA), which imposes stricter standards and penalties to professionalize the sector.

Abad underscored the importance of the initiative in protecting consumers. “As more LPG personnel undergo proper training from qualified institutions, consumers can be more confident in the quality and reliability of the LPG products they receive. We are proud to have Petron as one of our partners in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the industry and ensure the safe, efficient, and professional delivery of services to the public,” he said.

Under the program, all LPG personnel trained by Petron will receive a DOE-issued certificate that will also form part of their licensing requirements. The company has already lined up training sessions, starting with dealers and retailers in Ormoc, Leyte.

This development signals closer collaboration between government and the private sector to enhance safety practices, build industry competencies, and reinforce consumer trust in LPG.

What do you think—will DOE-certified industry training significantly raise compliance and safety standards in the Philippine LPG sector?
