PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI), the operator of the 50-megawatt Nabas Wind Power Project in Aklan, has once again been honored by the local government of Malay as one of its top corporate taxpayers for 2024.
During Malay’s 76th Founding Anniversary on June 14, 2025, PWEI was recognized as the Top 5 taxpayer in Real Property Tax and Top 9 in Business Tax—standing out as the only energy company in a list largely comprised of hotel and resort operators.
“This award reflects our dedication not only to sustainable energy production, but also to being a reliable partner in the economic growth of our host communities,” said PWEI Project Manager Jayson A. Abaniel. “As a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, paying taxes promptly and correctly to our host communities is our contribution to nation-building at the local level.”
PWEI is a subsidiary of PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), part of the Yuchengco Group of Companies. Beyond its fiscal contributions, the company has invested in social and environmental programs that benefit Aklan communities.
Through its CSR initiative We Power H.E.L.P. (Health, Education, and Livelihood Program), PWEI supports local residents with medical missions, nutrition projects, scholarships, and school development. In 2024, the company began providing financial aid to 115 students of Napaan Elementary School in Malay, aligning with DepEd’s goals to improve school attendance among disadvantaged families.
Environmental protection is also a cornerstone of PWEI’s operations. Its ridge-to-river rehabilitation initiative and the We Power C.A.R.E. program, launched in 2024, promote reforestation, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and local ecotourism.
As the energy sector pushes for cleaner generation and greater community integration, PWEI’s recognition highlights how renewable energy companies can deliver long-term value beyond the grid.
