The 19.6-megawatt San Jose Solar Power Project (SJSPP) has secured its Final Certificate of Approval to Connect (FCATC) from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) as of April 14, 2025, clearing the path to deliver clean power to thousands of households in Luzon.
Located in Barangay Sto. Niño 3rd, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, the project is backed by San Jose Green Energy Corporation (SJGEC), a subsidiary of Rizal Green Energy Corporation (RGEC). RGEC is a joint venture between Yuchengco-owned PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC) and Japan’s TAISEI Corporation.
The facility, inaugurated on April 24, 2025, uses over 29,000 high-efficiency PV panels from Trina Solar, with output capacities of 670Wp and 675Wp. The panels are connected to 51 Huawei string inverters rated at 300 kW each.
Commissioning tests began last December 21, 2024, and the plant is now expected to generate 29 GWh of electricity annually—enough to power around 30,000 households. It will also help avoid approximately 20,400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
“Receiving the FCATC underscores the RGEC team’s commitment to adhering to all required grid connection protocols for safe and efficient power plant operations,” said PGEC Vice President for Technical Operations Engr. Paul Elmer C. Morala.
PGEC also thanked NGCP and Nueva Ecija Electric Cooperative Inc. II (NEECO-II) for their support in enabling the connection to the Luzon grid.
SJGEC filed its application for the Energy Regulatory Commission’s Certificate of Compliance (COC) on April 15, 2025. Once the COC is issued and the project is officially registered with the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), its Power Supply Agreement with SN Aboitiz Power-Magat, Inc. (SNAP-MI) will take effect.
“When this commercial operation milestone is reached, the SJSPP will become PGEC’s eighth utility-scale renewable energy power plant, further boosting PGEC’s power generation asset and revenue stream,” said PGEC Assistant Vice President for Power Markets Dave P. Gadiano.
The San Jose Solar project is the latest in PGEC’s portfolio of renewable energy investments, pushing forward its clean energy commitment in Luzon.
