PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), through its subsidiary BKS Green Energy Corporation (BKS), has commenced the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels for the 40 megawatts direct current (MWDC) Limbauan Solar Power Project (LSPP) in San Pablo, Isabela.

Once completed, the LSPP will generate up to 59 GWh of clean energy annually, supplying power to approximately 33,000 households and reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 31,700 metric tons.

The LSPP is being developed in two phases: a 6 MWDC Phase 1 (LSPP-1) that will connect to the Isabela Electric Cooperative-II (ISELCO-II) system and a 34 MWDC Phase 2 (LSPP-2) that will link to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) 69 kV Tuguegarao-Cabagan line through a 4.73 km dedicated transmission facility.

The project will utilize 52,640 solar panels supplied by Trina Solar.

“In addition to increasing energy supply, we anticipate employing around 500-600 workers at the height of construction, partnering with our host LGUs for our corporate social responsibility and environment protection programs, and contributing to overall economic and social progress of the Cagayan valley region,” said PGEC Vice President for Business Development and Commercial Operations, Maria Victoria M. Olivar.

The Department of Energy (DOE) recognized LSPP-2 as a winning bidder under the Second Green Energy Auction (GEA-2), with an expected grid connection by the end of 2025. DOE Director Cerezo urged continued support for the project, citing the need for more private investments in renewable energy to meet the country’s growing power demand.

The LSPP received the Certificate of Energy Project of National Significance (CENPS) in November 2024, underscoring its role in enhancing grid stability and supporting national development initiatives.

As the first solar panel installation marks the beginning of full-scale construction, the LSPP moves closer to its goal of delivering clean, renewable energy to Luzon. Stakeholders are encouraged to support initiatives that promote sustainable power solutions for a resilient energy future.
