President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged to strengthen cooperation with Cambodia in renewable energy, trade, and other key sectors, highlighting new opportunities for collaboration that could benefit the Philippine energy industry.
Speaking during the Joint Leaders’ Statement with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, Marcos said their talks “involved a wide-ranging discussion on how our countries can effectively improve in meaningful and impactful ways the lives of our peoples.”
The President stressed that both nations “recognized that the growth and resilience of our economies depend on opening new avenues of cooperation, expanding opportunities in trade, agriculture, renewable energy, and the digital economy,” as reported by the Presidential Communications Office.
Energy stakeholders view the renewed focus on renewable energy as a critical opening, with potential to attract joint ventures, technology transfer, and cross-border investments in solar, wind, and other green technologies.
Marcos added that the Philippines will remain “a steadfast partner” of Cambodia in creating opportunities and ensuring resilience against external challenges.
Beyond economic cooperation, the two leaders also discussed security issues including human trafficking, cybercrime, and illicit drug trade, agreeing “to strengthen collaboration among our law enforcement and security institutions so that our collective response will be swift, coordinated, and effective.”
The President said his discussions with Hun Manet mark “a new chapter” in the Philippines-Cambodia partnership, focused on economic growth, energy transition, and regional stability.
