The Philippine Independent Power Producers Association, Inc. (PIPPA), representing the country’s private power generation companies, has lauded the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and its Chairperson, Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan, for taking steps to strengthen transparency and competitiveness in the energy sector.
In a statement released on October 27,, PIPPA said it “fully supports the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Chairperson Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan in its continuous proactive response to improve the energy sector by promulgating resolutions that uphold the principles of a competitive market envisioned by the EPIRA (Electric Power Industry Reform Act).”
The group noted that since assuming office, Chair Juan has shown a “firm resolve to consider all difficulties of the energy stakeholders” and has been instrumental in guiding the Commission to address system gaps more efficiently.
PIPPA also cited the ERC’s Open Commission Meetings as a move that “paves the way for a transparent and interactive relationship with all concerned,” strengthening trust and collaboration between regulators and industry players.
The association added that it sees “a balanced Commission where regulation and competitiveness are weighed and decided in an equitable manner,” expressing confidence that the ERC will remain “the steadfast guardian of a competitive and healthy environment for the energy industry, paving the way to secure a future of affordable, reliable, and sustainable power for the Philippines.”
Founded in 1995, PIPPA started with nine member firms and has since grown to 28 companies with a combined installed capacity of about 18,132 megawatts. The group continues to engage with policymakers and regulators on issues such as market price caps in the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), as well as investment conditions for new generation capacity.
