PNOC powers DEPDev CALABARZON with solar rooftop system

The Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) has energized a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) CALABARZON office, formerly NEDA Region IV-A, as part of its push to mainstream renewable energy in government facilities.

According to the PNOC website, the project, inaugurated on August 6, 2025, falls under PNOC’s Rooftop Solar for Government Buildings Project, designed to help public offices cut electricity costs and reduce carbon emissions while supporting the Department of Energy’s directive for the 100% installation of solar PV systems in all government buildings nationwide.

PNOC representatives Louie Aaron L. Razon and Engr. Mark Jay P. Tabajonda joined DEPDev Regional Director Carmel P. Matabang and her technical team during the switch-on ceremony.

The event featured an operations and maintenance training conducted by PNOC’s project contractor, covering solar PV system fundamentals, panel and inverter cleaning, troubleshooting steps, and emergency response protocols. A ceremonial system activation followed, highlighting the benefits of renewable energy integration in government operations.

To further improve efficiency, PNOC and DEPDev CALABARZON will link the installation to a remote monitoring platform for real-time tracking of system performance.

PNOC said the initiative demonstrates how government offices can “lead by example in the transition towards attaining the country’s clean energy goals.”

What do you think of PNOC’s strategy to make government offices early movers in solar adoption? Could this accelerate wider renewable energy uptake in the public and private sectors?
