Power rates increase for December

System loss charges may soon be removed from electric bills

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has increased its power rates from last month’s P9.5579 per kilowatt hour (kWh) to this month’s P9.8623 per kWh.

A typical household consuming 200 kWh will mean an increase of around P61 in their electricity bill.

Generation charge also increased this month. From November’s P5.0317 per kWh to P5.1967 per kWh, which is an upward adjustment of P0.1650 per kWh.

The Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) also had an upward adjustment on its charges by P1.0799 per kWh due to tighter supply conditions in the Luzon grid.

Rates from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) increased by P0.1106 per kWh and P0.987 per kWh respectively.

Transmission charges also increased by P0.0753 per kWh due to higher NGCP ancillary service charges.
