Power Ready for May 2025 Polls—NEA

As the nation gears up for the 2025 National and Local Elections on May 12, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) has moved to secure uninterrupted electricity at the grassroots level—placing critical focus on ensuring stable power supply in voting and canvassing centers.

NEA Engineering Department Manager Engr. Federico Villar, Jr. reported to the Department of Energy (DOE) that electric cooperatives (ECs) nationwide have completed inspections and preventive maintenance of all substations in their service areas. Line clearing operations, component repairs, and assessments of facilities linked to election sites are among the proactive steps taken.

“These efforts were in line with the directives of DOE and its Task Force on Energy Resilience to ensure stable and reliable power supply throughout the election period,” said Villar, who also chairs the NEA Task Force Election (TFE).

Contingency measures are ready in case of grid inefficiencies, transmission breakdowns, or disasters. Villar emphasized that power restoration in polling stations and other election facilities will be a top priority in such scenarios. “As a way forward, we are regularly conducting coordination meetings with our partner ECs across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” he said.

NEA-TFE teams have been monitoring the power situation round the clock since May 5. “This monitoring shall continue until the termination or conclusion of the canvassing of votes and the proclamation of the winning candidates, or as deemed necessary by the DOE,” he added.
