Prime Infrastructure is spending more than Php 1 billion to build a sizable, automated materials recovery facility (MRF) in Porac, Pampanga.

In a report by Philippine Star, Prime Infra launched a 10-hectare plant yesterday which boasted the capacity to process 5,000 tons of waste per day through its fully owned unit, Prime Integrated Waste Solutions (PWS).

Prime Infra president and CEO Guillaume Lucci said that the expansion is a testament to the firm’s dedication to the massive industrialization of the waste industry in the Philippines.

Lucci added that Prime Infra is also looking into funding a waste-to-fuel facility that could be utilized for ships, airplanes, and trucks among others.

The country produces over 61,000 metric tons of rubbish per day, according to Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, of which 33% wound up in landfills and 35% leaked into the surrounding environment.

Up to 80% to 90% of the waste collected from Pampanga and other northern Metro Manila regions will be recovered, upgraded, and recycled by the corporation using this plant.

Prime Infra’s market sector lead for waste Cara Peralta said that the company intends to grow its collaboration with WasteFuel Global, a US-based company, to transform trash into a variety of alternative fuels, such as waste oil and methanol.

To transform waste into a useful source of clean energy, WasteFuel Global and Prime Infra announced their intentions to establish a waste-to-fuel project back in 2021.
