Primelectric Slashes June Power Rates, Saving Visayas Households Up to PHP150

Primelectric Holdings Inc. (PHI), through its utility subsidiaries, has implemented significant electricity rate reductions for June 2025, delivering financial relief to thousands of households and businesses across the Visayas region.

The reductions cover customers of MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) in Iloilo City, Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) in Central Negros, and Bohol Light Company, Inc. (Bohol Light) in Bohol.

In Bohol, Bohol Light customers saw a PHP0.75 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) drop in residential rates, amounting to monthly savings of around PHP150 for households consuming 200 kWh. Iloilo City’s MORE Power implemented a PHP0.61/kWh rate cut, reducing the residential rate to PHP10.52/kWh—translating to about PHP122 in savings for similar households. Meanwhile, Negros Power customers benefited from a PHP0.55/kWh reduction, lowering rates from PHP11.69 to PHP11.14/kWh, or approximately PHP110 in monthly savings.

PHI attributed the overall PHP1.91 reduction across its utilities to lower prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and reduced transmission charges.

“Our goal is to pass these savings directly to consumers, helping families allocate more for essentials like food, education, and other vital needs,” said PHI President and CEO Roel Castro.

PHI’s subsidiaries now offer some of the most competitive rates in the Visayas. In Iloilo City, MORE Power’s PHP10.52/kWh rate undercuts those of nearby electric cooperatives, including ILECO I (PHP11.63/kWh), ILECO II (PHP11.22/kWh), ILECO III (PHP11.17/kWh), AKELCO (PHP12.21/kWh), ANTECO (PHP11.95/kWh), CAPELCO (PHP11.61/kWh), and GUIMELCO (PHP11.90/kWh).

Since beginning operations in November 2024, Negros Power has maintained a lower rate of PHP11.14/kWh compared to NONECO (PHP12.72/kWh), NOCECO (PHP12.02/kWh), NORECO 1 (PHP12.18/kWh), and NORECO 2 (PHP11.71/kWh).

Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) President and CEO Atty. Richard Nethercott praised PHI’s performance, noting that “utilities that manage their supply sourcing well and remain active in monitoring market trends are better positioned to offer consumers lower rates.”

Consumers in the region have started to feel the impact, with many reporting noticeable reductions in their monthly electricity bills. PHI said it will continue to pursue infrastructure upgrades, system loss reduction programs, and strategic market participation to keep rates affordable in the long term.
