Puerto Princesa Hosts First EnerKids Under DOE–DepEd Energy Education Drive

The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Education (DepEd) kicked off the first Energy Smart Kids Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, gathering 100 students from 47 schools to promote energy awareness and responsibility.

DOE introduced the Energy Smart Kids Program and made the students watch videos about conservation of energy and the Siklo ng Enerhiya Series of Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc.

Schools Division Superintendent Laida M. Lagar-Mascarenas highlighted the significance of early education about right consumption of energy.

“The Energy Smart Kids Information Education and Communication (IEC) campaign is a very crucial activity empowering our young learners with essential knowledge and skills to become responsible energy consumers.” Mascareñas during her welcome remarks

During the activity, the participating students vowed to be “Energy Cost Busters” by conveying to others what they’ve learned in the campaign.

The Puerto Princesa campaign was the first EnerKids activity conducted in MIMAROPA after the DOE and DepEd formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year.

Could the EnerKids in Puerto Princesa be the breakthrough for the whole country’s culture of energy responsibility?
