Norwegian firm, Scatec, expressed its hopes to expand its reach in the Philippine renewable energy sector.
In a report by Inquirer, Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog said that the goal of the company is to expedite the green transition internationally, with an emphasis on markets where renewable energy may have significant advantages.
Pilskog has received updates on Scatec’s projects with Aboitiz Power Corporation and explored potential expansions in solar, onshore wind, and battery storage.
With over 10 years of experience in renewable energy, he assured that Scatec is uniquely positioned to support the Philippines’ shift towards greener energy.
Scatec has already developed, built, and operates renewable energy plants with 4.6 gigawatts (GW) in operation and under construction across four continents. Additionally, the firm’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can help balance the power grid, adding stability and reliability.
The company first entered the Philippine market through a joint venture with Aboitiz Power Corporation, forming SN Aboitiz Power, the largest private hydropower company in the country.
Pilskog confirmed that the firm intends to branch out even more in the Philippines, both with Aboitiz and independently, tapping on Scatec’s extensive experience.
He noted that technology advancements have dramatically reduced the cost of renewable energy production, making it more competitive.
Scatec’s extensive experience in various countries equips it to address these challenges effectively in the Philippines.
Scatec was founded in 2007 to provide clean, affordable energy and now operates projects in 15 countries, including the Philippines.
