Senate Minority Leader Ralph Recto on Wednesday filed a Senate resolution ordering the Energy Regulatory Commission to probe the power situation of the Luzon grid.
The resolution also seeks to determine the cause of simultaneous shutdown of six power plants that caused power interruption from July 26 to 31, causing the grid to go on red and yellow alerts.
Recto said the investigation wants to come up with measures that can ensure a reliable and secure supply of electric power, especially in Luzon/
The 1, 218-megawatt (MW) Sual and 630-MW Masinloc coal-fired power plants, both in Luzon, are the biggest power plants in the Philippines.
”The power interruptions in Luzon could disrupt the economic growth momentum of the Philippines and could discourage potential foreign investors,” Recto stated in the resolution.
