Shell Energy CEO: Company Eyeing Solar-Plus-Battery and Onshore Wind

Shell Energy Philippines, Inc. (SEPH) is broadening its renewable energy portfolio, aiming to deliver more clean power to commercial and industrial customers while supporting the country’s energy transition goals.

SEPH President and CEO Bernd Krukenberg told the Manila Bulletin that the company is focusing on solar plus battery systems and is also exploring onshore wind opportunities. “We are focusing primarily on solar plus battery, so the integrated energy storage systems. We are also looking into onshore wind,” he said at the Clean Energy Transition Forum of the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP).

The company has already entered new supply agreements. It partnered with PetroSolar Corp. for a power supply agreement involving 20 megawatts (MW) from the Tarlac-2 solar power plant, and with Daiichi Properties to deliver renewable power to its office buildings.

SEPH, a direct participant in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), currently supplies electricity to over 100 commercial and industrial clients across sectors such as real estate, manufacturing, education, and retail.

Krukenberg also confirmed a partnership with a data center, highlighting the growing demand from the digital sector. “We’ve signed an agreement with a data center… We want to grow that business. The other sectors we’re looking into [are] semiconductors and electronic manufacturing—all those customers who have rather bulky demand,” he said.

According to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Philippine data center market could grow to USD1.97 billion in the next five years, reflecting rising demand for cloud-based storage and processing.
