Spanish renewable energy developer ACCIONA Energía has secured a 20-year power supply contract for 281 megawatts (MW) of capacity in the Philippines after winning under Round 4 of the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP).
The award covers two projects: the 101-MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna, which is already under construction, and the 180-megawatt-peak (MWp) Daanbantayan solar power plant in Cebu, where construction is set to begin before the end of 2025.
The long-term contract locks in offtake for the full output of both facilities, providing revenue certainty while injecting new clean capacity into the Luzon and Visayas grids. The projects are expected to support the government’s renewable energy targets and help reinforce long-term supply security.
“This award is excellent news, as it further de-risks our portfolio and strengthens ACCIONA Energía’s leadership position in the Philippines—widely recognized as the most attractive country for renewable energy investment in Southeast Asia,” said Ignacio Domecq, Managing Director for Southeast Asia, in a recent announcement.
Beyond these two projects, ACCIONA Energía has more than 2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable capacity in its development pipeline in the Philippines. The company recently reorganized its Southeast Asian partnerships to reinforce its presence in priority markets such as the Philippines and Thailand, where it plans further expansion.
ACCIONA has operated in the Philippines since 2016, primarily through its water and infrastructure units. Its major local projects include the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and the Putatan II and Laguna Lake water treatment plants.
Its social enterprise arm, acciona.org, has also been active in rural electrification since 2021. Through partnerships with the Ayala Foundation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, the group has so far provided electricity access to around 3,500 households, small businesses, and community facilities.
