SparkMeter, a US-based grid management services provider, is aiming to supply the country with metering systems as it receives a compliance certificate from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
In a report by Business World, SparkMeter CEO Dan Schnitzer said the compliance certificate awarded by the ERC would enable the firm to push through with its commercial sales and operations in the Philippines.
SparkMeter added that this certification would not only authorize the distribution of its products but is also parallel to the country’s goal to transition to cleaner energy alternatives.
The company also shared that it had been collaborating with the National Electrification Administration and the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. to partner with more power distributors.
Schnitzer also shared that distributors who opted to utilize the company’s metering system with its software would aid in reducing power costs.
SparkMeter’s smart grid analytics, GridScan software, could also be utilized for other utility needs such as customer outage detection, transformer loading analysis, and revenue loss analysis.
SparkMeter, which was established in 2013, has been active in 25 countries. Power distributors have been able to access functions like remote monitoring and control, flexible billing, and client communications with the use of the firm’s technology.
In 2023, the firm had pilot installations in Pampanga and Zamboanga.
