Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) has revealed that partners of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Spectrum, have begun to see the benefits of their solar rooftop projects.
Spectrum earlier installed a 99.9 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar panel project at the Orchard Gold and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite in January 2022. Since then, it has generated over 125,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy, resulting in savings of around 10,000 kWh in monthly consumption, equating to Php 785,000 in energy cost savings last year.
Additionally, The Orchard’s carbon footprint was reduced by approximately 89 tonnes, which is equivalent to planting 4,100 trees or reducing 355,000 kilometers in vehicle travel per year.
Spectrum also partnered with Biostar NutriProducts, Inc., a licensed distributor and manufacturer of animal health products in the Philippines, to install a 24.96-kWp rooftop facility at the company’s poultry farm in San Pablo City, Laguna.
Since its operations last April 2022, the solar project has generated 21,520 kWh of clean energy, resulting in Biostar’s energy cost savings of nearly Php 167,000.
Additionally, Biorstar’s carbon footprint was reduced by 15.33 tonnes, the equivalent of planting over 700 trees or reducing vehicle travel by 61,054 kilometers per year.
Spectrum is actively working with partners from the private sector across multiple industries to assist them in achieving their sustainability objectives through using clean energy.
Our partnerships with The Orchard and Biostar are testaments to how we help our partners achieve their sustainability goals while also reducing operating expenses such as energy costs,” Spectrum President Ferdinand O. Geluz said.
