Stark Wind Energy Corp. (SWEC), a Philippine-registered renewable energy developer, is set to build a 200-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Bohol with an estimated cost of PHP 14.36 billion.
Documents submitted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) show that the Valencia Wind Power Project has entered the public scoping phase of the environmental review process, a preliminary step under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) System that allows stakeholders to provide input on potential environmental impacts before full studies are conducted.
The wind farm will span approximately 2,916 hectares across multiple barangays in the municipalities of Valencia and Garcia Hernandez. In Valencia, it covers Pangi-an, Taytay, Banderahan (Upper Ginopolan) and Ticum, while in Garcia Hernandez, the sites include Sampong, Candanas, Lunsodaan West, Lunsodaan East, Pasong, Basiao, Libertad and Sacaon.
Development is planned in two phases: an initial 50 MW followed by 150 MW, potentially featuring up to 33 wind turbines. Construction is expected to last 12 to 18 months, employing around 600 workers, with full operations targeted for 2028.
The wind farm will connect to Bohol’s existing grid via the Cebu-Bohol interconnection, part of the growing wave of renewable energy projects in the Visayas region aimed at meeting rising power demand.
