Profood International Corporation, the country’s largest producer of dried fruits, is making a major move toward clean energy through a partnership with Aboitiz Upgrade Solar Inc. (AUSI) for a 1.27 megawatt-peak (MWp) grid-tied rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its Cebu production facility.
The installation marks AUSI’s first rooftop solar project in the region and will span four buildings within the Profood complex. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
AUSI is a joint venture between Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables, Inc. (APx)—a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation—and Upgrade Energy Philippines, Inc. (UGEP). The company focuses on delivering distributed solar solutions for large commercial and industrial clients across the Philippines.
“By transitioning further into renewable energy, we are making a clear statement: sustainability is not a distant ambition, it is a present priority,” said Profood CEO Justin Uy. “We are proud to stand alongside a partner like AUSI, an organization that shares our unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and a greener tomorrow.”
The rooftop system is a strategic sustainability investment for Profood, a legacy company that began in a home kitchen in 1978 and has grown into a global player in the fruit processing industry. Its products are exported to over 50 countries and its operations have had significant socioeconomic impact, particularly in rural communities where approximately 65% of its gross income is reinvested.
“Profood’s innovative shift to solar energy showcases how clean power can scale with industry,” said Engr. Gina Camacho-David, Vice President and Head of Retail Sales and Solutions at AboitizPower.
“By integrating solar energy into their operations, Profood is not only reducing emissions but also setting a strong example of how renewable energy can support both business performance and environmental responsibility,” added Pieterjan Vanbuggenhout, Chief Operating Officer of UGEP.
