Typhoon Nando Cuts Power across 22 Provinces, 3 Co-ops Fully Down

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) reported that 32 electric cooperatives (ECs) across six regions have been affected by Super Typhoon Nando and enhanced southwest monsoon rains as of 7:00 AM on September 23.

Of these three ECs, Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO), Batanes Electric Cooperative (BATANELCO), and Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC), reported total power interruptions.

Another eight ECs are experiencing partial brownouts: Batangas II Electric Cooperative (BATELEC 2), Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO), Cagayan Electric Cooperative I (CAGELCO 1), Cagayan Electric Cooperative II (CAGELCO 2), Ifugao Electric Cooperative (IFELCO), Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO), La Union Electric Cooperative (LUELCO), and Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO).

The remaining 21 ECs continue normal operations despite the typhoon.

NEA said 271 out of 411 municipalities (65.94%) remain energized, while restoration work is ongoing for 638,615 households. The initial estimated cost of damage to electric cooperative infrastructure has reached PHP2,194.51, based on reports from BENECO.

The affected regions include CAR, Ilocos Region, Cagayan, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA, thus covering a total of 22 provinces.
