Upgrade Energy Philippines, Inc. (UGEP) and AboitizPower Distributed Renewables, Inc. (APX), a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation have teamed together in order to carry out commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects in the Philippines.
The partnership will utilize UGEP’s experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), in addition to the establishment of solar and other renewable energy (RE) projects, as well as support the APX’s goal in developing ground-mounted RE projects and rooftop solar projects for industrial and commercial businesses throughout this country.
The joint venture aims to unleash the potential for further expansion in the renewable energy sector by managing and creating distributed solar power systems tailored to the considerable C&I market.
These facilities will be created to meet the determined needs of current and potential business clients under the portfolio of the Abotiz Power Retail division.
With specialization in construction, procurement, and engineering under their belts, UGEP has accumulated a reputation for providing cost-competitive and top-notch projects in energy efficiency and solar energy.
“Through our joint venture with UGEP, we aim to leverage their capabilities to capture and exceed those needs, beyond the sale of retail electricity, compassing also development, construction, and long-term operations and maintenance aspects of solar projects,” Aboitiz Power’s First Vice President-Head of Retail, James Byron Yu, said in a statement.
UGEP President and CEO Ruth Yu-Owen recognized the key role that distributed generation plays in aiding companies as they investigate and take risks in search of a more sustainable option.

This venture between UGEP and APX. represents a significant benchmark in the Philippines’ transition towards a more sustainable future as it aims to expedite the transition to RE while at the same time encouraging businesses to reach their sustainability goals, UGEP said.
