Vantage Energy Debuts in Mindanao, Supplies Power to Food and Feed Industry Players

SPC Power Corp. to expand business into retail electricity

Vantage Energy, the retail electricity arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has entered the Mindanao market through new supply agreements with two of the region’s leading manufacturers—Philippine Spring Water Resources, Inc. (PSWRI), maker of Nature’s Spring bottled water, and Cagayan Corn Products Corporation (CCPC), a major producer of cornstarch and animal feed ingredients.

The move follows the Department of Energy’s (DOE) formal rollout of the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM) in Mindanao under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. Contestable customers in the region—those with at least 500 kW in average peak demand over the last 12 months—are now allowed to choose their electricity supplier, aligning Mindanao with existing rules in Luzon and Visayas.

Backed by Meralco’s operational expertise, Vantage Energy is now positioned to serve Mindanao’s industrial customers with stable, reliable, and competitively priced power. The company said its entry aims to support the region’s growing electricity demand and industrial expansion.

“Vantage Energy sees tremendous growth potential in Mindanao,” said Vantage Energy President Ernesto Cabral. “Our new strategic partnerships with local businesses not only mark the beginning of a more energized and dynamic region but also reflect the broader momentum of development beyond the capital.”

As part of its long-term strategy, Vantage Energy plans to conduct education campaigns across Mindanao to help businesses understand the benefits of shifting to the contestable market. These include increased control over supply contracts, cost-efficiency, and access to customized energy solutions.

The company emphasized that its expansion supports regional development by providing energy solutions tailored to local needs. Through direct retail supply, Vantage Energy aims to help industrial customers manage energy costs while contributing to more efficient and sustainable business operations.

The deals with PSWRI and CCPC mark Vantage Energy’s first major engagements in Mindanao since the company’s launch. They also serve as an initial step toward deeper market participation as CREM adoption increases across the region.
