MGen puts off solar projects amid COVID-19 outbreak

In light of the ongoing 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) is putting off its solar projects in Tarlac and Bulacan this year.

President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rogelio Singson said in a Philippine News Agency (PNA) report that the photovoltaic (PV) panels from China for the Tarlac project are not yet completely shipped as only 30 percent of the panels have been delivered.

Likewise, Chinese engineers contracted by the firm for the Bulacan solar project cannot come to the country because of the travel ban imposed to prevent the spread of the virus.

Despite these circumstances, Singson expressed in the report that they are still committed to installing 1,000 megawatts (MW) worth of renewable energy projects over five to seven years.
