Nine more power projects have been endorsed by the Department of Energy to the National Grid Corporation to undertake system impact study (SIS).
The biggest project among the new additions is Solar Philippines’ Cabatang Tiaong Solar Power Project in Quezon with a capacity of 600 megawatts alternating current (MWac). The firm’s 120/150 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power project in Concepcion, Tarlac was likewise cleared for SIS.
Power generating companies have to secure clearance from the DOE for SIS before developing their respective projects. This will determine if the power to be generated by the project can be consumed by the country’s transmission system.
JBD Management and Consulting Services’ 350MW hydroelectric project in Pakil, Laguna is the second largest project among the latest additions, followed by 2 Barracuda Energy Corporation’s 150MW Laguna Lake – Bay solar power project.
Also cleared for SIS are Amatera Renewable Energy Corporation’s 51.3MW Vista Alegre Solar PV farm project in Bacolod City and Plaridel Windkraft’s 50MW Quezon II Plaridel Wind Power Project in Plridel and Atimonan, Quezon. The Windkraft Group is the only conglomerate with offshore wind projects in the country cleared for SIS.
Corporate heavyweights round up the list of new additions, namely Aboitiz Power Corporation’s 45 MWac Gamu 2 Solar Power Project in Isabela, SMC Global Power Holdings’ 31MW Sangali Diesel Project in Zamboanga City, and Energy Development Corporation’s 8MW Northern Negros Geothermal Production Field in Negros Occidental.
The new additions bring the total of cleared projects for the year to 40.
