The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has appealed to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to allow the recovery of Php113.3 million it spent to repair transmission assets and facilities damaged by various storms last year.

Based on a BusinessMirror report, NGCP said the amount was used to restore its facilities struck by Typhoon Quinta and Super Typhoon Rolly in Luzon, and Tropical Depression Vicky in Mindanao. Vicky’s rains particularly resulted in a landslide causing damages to the NGCP substation in Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur.

The amount consists of Php77.8 million in Force Majeure Events, capital expenditures, and operational expenses; and another Php35.5 million in net fixed asset value of the transmission facilities.

Should the request be approved, additional network charges for Luzon and Mindanao will be collected from January 2022 to December 2025, or until the amounts incurred are fully recovered.

NGCP particularly proposed to collect Php0.0012 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in 2022, Php0.0001/kWh in 2023, and Php0.0002/kWh from 2024-2025 in Luzon. For Mindanao, meanwhile, the grid firm aims to collect Php0.0001/kWh yearly during the said period.

The grid operator argued to the commission that the recovery should be allowed immediately to avoid any financial strain in its operations, so it can continue transmission services to its customers.
