Ayala-led ACEN Corporation is boosting up its wind portfolio with an onshore wind project investment in Laguna and Quezon with a capacity of 335 megawatts (MW).
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), ACEN said that its board approved the wind project to be undertaken by its subsidiary, Giga Ace 6 Inc. However, the company chose not to disclose the amount of the investment.
Data from the Department of Energy (DOE) said that this project will extend across the municipalities of Pakil, Paete, Mauban in Quezon Province, and Kalayaan in Laguna.
Earlier in the year, ACEN completed the first 80 MW phase of its 160 MW Pagudpud wind farm in Ilocos Norte, aiming to achieve full operational status no later than December 2025.
The Pagudpud wind farm, which costs around Php 11.8 billion, is the energy firm’s third wind development in Ilocos Norte, in addition to the 81 MW North Luzon Renewables also situated in Pagudpud and the 52 MW North Wind Power in Bangui.
Meanwhile, the fourth wind project, known as the 70 MW Capa Wind, is also under development in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
With this, ACEN said that the company has the largest wind portfolio in the country with 416 MW in its portfolio. From this, 150 MW is currently under construction, while 266 MW are in operation.
As for Giga Ace 6 Inc., it was awarded by the DOE as a successful bidder during the second round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-2).
ACEN’s board approved the company’s purchase of a performance bond for Giga Ace 6 so that it could comply with the GEA-2’s standards.
