In order to expand its portfolio, Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP) plans to add 700 megawatts (MW) of developments over the next four years.

In a report by Inquirer, UGEP President and CEO Ruth Yu-Owen expressed an optimistic outlook for the country’s solar industry. The company planned to integrate commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar rooftops, in addition to ground-mounted projects.

The newest client of the firm is JG Summit Holdings Inc., which is run by Gokongwei. The two are working together on a 13.8 MW rooftop solar project for the renewable energy (RE) division’s facility in Batangas.

Merbau Corporation, the RE arm of JG Summit, began its rooftop project construction for nine buildings in August 2022. These facilities accommodate JG Summit Olefins Corporation’s manufacturing plants and the packaging department of Universal Robina Corporation.

The first phase, with a 5.8 MW capacity, was completed in December 2022, and the second phase, with an 8 MW capacity, was finished in April of last year.

Furthermore, UGEP also partnered with AboitizPower Distributed Renewables Inc. to work towards securing rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects for commercial and industrial consumers.

A 50 MW utility-scale solar project in Batangas was developed by the company last year after securing its first solar energy operational contract with the Department of Energy.
