The National Electrification Administration (NEA) is spearheading the kick-off of the energization project in Las Nieves, Agusan Del Norte, Mindanao, a government-backed initiative under the Sitio Electrification Program.
In a report by the Manila Bulletin, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said that the energy corporation had been prioritizing electrifying the underserved areas in Mindanao.
Almeda added that due to the urging of the local government of Las Nieves to consider the plights of the Higaonons, the tribal community finally achieved their desire as electricity services are now made available in the area.
However, the NEA chief acknowledged that the goal of the country’s electrification is still at its starting line as stumbling blocks obstruct the progress with issues like funding and logistics. He added that it is also a struggle to extend electricity in far-flung areas.
Despite that, Almeda believed that extending electricity services is crucial in propelling economic progress and strengthening human resources in the community.
Thus, the government is keen on ensuring the success of the 100% electrification goal before 2028, and taking part in the goal, NEA along with their partners are taking a snag at the first opportunity to reach remote communities.
