The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) switched on its Malinta Substation in Valenzuela City to solidify the reliability of the electricity service in the area.
The Php 170.81 million project transformed the outdated 115-kilovolt (kV) traditional single-bus switchyard into an updated indoor double-bus design using Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS).
This modification would be beneficial to the customers of Valenzuela and Malabon by reducing the frequency of planned and extended power outages.
“This will also enhance both the reliability and flexibility of the substation and the 115 kV sub-transmission line system,” said MERALCO.
Earlier, two new smart substations in Taguig City were switched on by the distribution utility (DU) firm to meet the increasing demand in the business center.
“MERALCO actively invests in the improvement of its distribution system to ensure the delivery of safe, stable, and reliable electricity service to its customers,” the DU added.
