The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that its energy collaboration with a state-owned firm from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will begin operations in January.

In a statement, Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla said the partnership stemmed from a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed during the working visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the UAE last month.

“To operationalize this MOU, an implementation agreement with a UAE state-owned company is expected by January,” said Lotilla.

The DOE did not provide further details regarding the company involved or the scope of potential investments.

Lotilla added that the DOE discussed the agreement’s terms with UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei during a recent meeting in Abu Dhabi.

“Our dialogue emphasized fostering meaningful business collaboration and positioning the Philippines as a prime destination for Emirati investment in critical energy sectors,” Lotilla said.

The MOU outlines areas of cooperation such as renewable energy, liquefied natural gas, power generation, transmission, distribution, nuclear energy, energy efficiency, and alternative fuels and emerging technologies.

Lotilla expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to combine the UAE’s expertise in innovative energy solutions with the Philippines’ push for energy security and sustainability.
