Aboitiz Power Corporation’s subsidiary, Northern Sun Radiance Inc. (NSRI), is awaiting regulatory approval to establish a transmission facility worth Php 895.6 million to link its floating solar project in San Marcelino, Zambales to the Luzon grid, a move that will enhance the country’s clean energy infrastructure and support the growing demand for sustainable energy sources.

Philippine Star reported that NSRI has petitioned the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to authorize the construction of point-to-point interconnection facilities to connect its 120-megawatt San Marcelino Floating Solar Power Project (FSPP) to the 230-kilovolt (kV) Castillejos Substation, which is owned and operated by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In its application, NSRI justified that a direct connection is the most feasible option due to its proximity and economic viability. The project includes the development of a substation, transmission lines, and associated components.

While the estimated investment is pegged at Php 895.6 million, the company noted that the final cost will depend on the outcome of the engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.

The NGCP and NSRI are currently finalizing the agreement terms for integrating the solar farm into the grid via the dedicated transmission facility.

NSRI stressed that the immediate dispatch of the project after the project’s successful conclusion is crucial to avoid delays that may lead to opportunity costs and affect the growing energy demand.

The company also requested provisional authority from the ERC to expedite the transmission project and to treat sensitive information confidentially.

NSRI, a fully owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, is part of the company’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio. AboitizPower aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to 4,600 MW by 2030 as part of the Aboitiz Group’s broader push for sustainability.
