MERALCO says Php 25B CAPEX for 2025 is for boosting distribution utility operations

Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) clarifies that the Php 25 billion capital expenditure (capex) budget proposed for 2025 is dedicated to strengthening its distribution utility operations. 

In a clarification to a Business World report, MERALCO said in a disclosure that the CAPEX includes funding for various projects and initiatives, such as the company’s storm-hardening program, electric system capital projects, and efforts toward digital transformation and grid modernization of the distribution network.

“We would like to clarify that the proposed Php 25 billion capital expenditure (capex) budget for 2025 is earmarked for the distribution utility business of Meralco primarily to fund, among other projects and initiatives, the company’s storm-hardening program and system requirement electric capital projects, along with other distribution network digital transformation and grid modernization initiatives,” said the Distribution Utility (DU) firm.

Business World had reported that MERALCO has set aside a P25-billion capital expenditure budget for 2025, aimed at funding the company’s storm-hardening program, as well as upgrades, expansion, and modernization of its distribution network.

Meanwhile, the distribution utility (DU) confirmed that it consolidated energy sales of 54,325 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2024, reflecting a 6.4% increase from 2023’s total of 51,044 GWh.

MERALCO will provide full disclosure of its operating and financial performance for 2024 once its financial and operating results are finalized.
