The Department of Energy (DOE) has activated the Energy Task Force Election (ETFE) to guarantee uninterrupted power supply during the 2025 midterm elections.
To maintain vigilance, the ETFE will operate a centralized energy command hub throughout the election period, monitoring power systems and addressing any issues in real-time. This setup aims to provide seamless coordination and rapid response to any disruptions.
Working alongside the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Department of National Defense (DND), the ETFE aims to safeguard the integrity and smooth conduct of the elections by ensuring energy sector preparedness before, during, and after the electoral process.
Additionally, task force members are conducting inspections of key facilities and canvassing centers to proactively identify vulnerabilities. They are also coordinating closely with distribution utilities and electric cooperatives to secure reliable backup power sources and replace outdated electrical components.
Efforts include reinforcing uninterruptible power supply systems for servers and addressing transformer loads to prevent outages during crucial stages of the elections.
Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella, who also chairs the Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER), emphasized the task force’s responsibility to implement contingency measures against potential power disruptions, including those caused by natural disasters.
“Safeguarding the energy needs of the country during the critical electoral process is our foremost concern and we have enlisted the full cooperation of all our stakeholders in the generation, transmission and distribution sectors in this endeavor to ensure that there would be enough power in days leading up to, during and in the immediate conduct of the elections,” said Undersecretary Fuentebella.
