DTI endorses Green GSM’s 2,500-EV rollout

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officially hailed Green GSM Philippines as the country’s first completely foreign-owned electric vehicle (EV) operator during its grand launch on June 10. The operator introduced a fleet of 2,500 EVs, marking a critical advance toward the government’s ambition for a fully electrified public transportation network.

The event was highlighted by the presence of DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque and Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go, who both welcomed the launch as a major stride in sustainable transformation for the Philippines.

In her remarks, Secretary Roque emphasized that the project aligns with President Marcos’ “Bagong Pilipinas” vision, emphasizing cleaner air, job creation, improved commuter comfort, and bolstered climate action efforts. According to official releases, she stated that Green GSM’s entry “opens up new possibilities … for a greener, stronger, and more future-ready country”

The launch solidifies a pivotal public‑private partnership aimed at driving inclusive growth through green innovation—an approach the DTI describes as critical for achieving a cleaner and more sustainable transport infrastructure in the Philippines.
