The Department of Energy (DOE) has spread its nationwide “You Have the Power” campaign into barangays and local communities across the country, urging Filipinos to actively participate in energy efficiency efforts.
The initiative is a direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to strengthen the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Roadmap. Designed to reach households, schools, and public offices, the campaign provides practical advice, ranging from making sure appliances are properly maintained, to unplugging idle devices and switching to LED lighting.
“Energy is not just a technical issue — it’s a people issue,” said DOE Officer-in-Charge Sharon S. Garin. “From the lightbulbs in our homes to the appliances we use, every choice we make matters. You Have the Power is a call for collective action — a reminder that energy efficiency starts with each of us.”
Officials from energy companies and local municipalities attended the kickoff events, which also included free distribution of educational materials and demonstrations on simple energy-saving practices. The DOE highlighted eco-friendly behaviors like proper disposal of electronic waste and responsible use of air conditioning and lighting as well.
The DOE emphasized that energy-efficient habits at the household level can significantly reduce peak power demand and help stabilize electricity prices. This is especially prevalent in the face of ever-rising energy costs and supply challenges. The campaign promotes a message of collective responsibility, urging every Filipino to unite behind the national goal of a more sustainable energy system.
Prioritizing inclusion, the DOE is extending “You Have the Power” to underdeveloped communities, pairing it with mobile EEC caravans and community talks. This ensures even marginalized areas gain access to information, such as low-interest financing for energy-efficient retrofits under the EEC Roadmap.
The campaign rollout aligns with the DOE’s grander strategy to help achieve the country’s climate and energy targets, cutting emissions, and reducing overall electricity consumption through public engagement and behavior change.
By taking the campaign into neighborhoods, schools, and barangay halls, the DOE hopes to inspire Filipinos nationwide to not just talk about energy efficiency, but to live it. It’s a reminder that collective small actions can lead to big national impacts.
