Energy Development Corporation (EDC), through its subsidiary PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia, has entered into a strategic partnership with PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti, a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) under the Sinar Mas Group, to jointly develop up to 440 megawatts (MW) of geothermal capacity across six key sites in Indonesia.
The joint venture agreement was formalized in Jakarta on October 29, 2025, following an initial partnership deal signed last August. The collaboration is aimed at advancing geothermal exploration, capacity-building, and technology transfer in support of Indonesia’s clean energy transition and its Net Zero Emissions 2060 goal.
Under the agreement, the two companies will develop geothermal fields in West Java, Flores, Jambi, West Sumatra, and Central Sulawesi. This partnership combines EDC’s nearly five decades of geothermal experience with DSSR’s local expertise in Indonesia’s energy industry.
EDC President and Chief Operating Officer Jerome H. Cainglet said the joint venture reflects EDC’s long-term commitment to regional clean energy development. “This partnership represents our shared vision to harness geothermal energy responsibly while contributing to Indonesia’s energy security and sustainability goals,” Cainglet said.
Indonesia currently has an estimated 24-gigawatt geothermal potential, of which only 10% has been developed. The partnership supports the country’s broader “Golden Indonesia 2045” roadmap, which envisions a resilient and sustainable energy future built on renewable resources.
