Shell Energy, Greenlight Renewables sign 15-year power deal for Leyte solar project

Shell Energy Philippines Inc. (SEPH) and Greenlight Renewables Holdings Inc. have signed a 15-year power supply agreement (PSA) for the 120-megawatt peak (MWp) San Isidro Solar Power Project in Leyte, thus marking a major step toward expanding the country’s renewable energy capacity.

The deal marks the first PSA signed since Greenlight’s formation, which is a joint venture between Emerging Power Inc. (EPI) of Nickel Asia Corporation and Shell Overseas Investments B.V. (SOIBV). Under the agreement, SEPH will purchase electricity from Greenlight’s subsidiary San Isidro Solar Power Corp., which operates the project’s first phase now undergoing testing and commissioning.

Bernd Krukenberg, president of SEPH, said the partnership showcases Shell’s commitment to affordable and cleaner energy. “Our strong partnership with Greenlight, along with our decision to fully offtake from this project, reflects Shell’s commitment to providing cleaner and more affordable energy solutions to the country,” he said.

Jasmin Agbon, Greenlight President and CEO, said the San Isidro project spotlights how collaboration can advance the Philippines’ renewable energy goals. “We are proud to see the San Isidro Solar Power Project move from vision to reality through this collaboration with SEPH and other partners,” she said.

The project’s first phase is expected to reach commercial operations by the second quarter of 2026 and contribute significantly to the Visayas grid’s renewable power mix. Future phases in Leyte, Zambales, and Bataan are also in development under Greenlight’s growing solar portfolio.

SEPH, which serves as the registered retail electricity supplier for Shell’s power ventures in the Philippines, said it will distribute the solar-generated electricity to commercial and industrial customers, which help businesses transition to cleaner energy use.

The signing coincided with Shell’s 111th year in the Philippines and SEPH’s 5th anniversary, marking a milestone in the company’s expansion of renewable energy solutions in the country.
