Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has earned international recognition for excellence in sustainability reporting after securing a Silver Award at the 2025 Asia Sustainability Reporting Rating (ASRRAT), marking its sixth consecutive year of recognition at the regional platform.
The award was given to Meralco’s One Meralco 2024 Integrated Report, which was cited for its strong alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards and its comprehensive disclosure of sustainability strategy, governance practices, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
Meralco’s 2024 report stands out as one of the first in the Philippines to adopt both the International Integrated Reporting Framework and the IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard—well ahead of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s mandated timeline. The report also introduced the company’s first double materiality assessment, evaluating both Meralco’s impact on people and the environment, as well as the financial implications of sustainability-related risks and opportunities.
Meralco First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Raymond B. Ravelo said the recognition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to transparency and accountability.
“This recognition underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting,” Ravelo said. “By embedding climate, social, and governance elements into our disclosures ahead of regulatory timelines, we are better positioned to manage climate risks, seize opportunities in the energy transition, and deliver long-term value to stakeholders.”
The One Meralco 2024 Integrated Report also formally presented Meralco and its subsidiaries under a unified “One Meralco” banner, offering a consolidated view of how the group creates value across its operations while managing sustainability priorities.
Organized by the National Center for Corporate Reporting, ASRRAT recognizes companies that demonstrate high-quality sustainability disclosures, including energy use and greenhouse gas emissions reporting aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The latest Silver Award builds on Meralco’s Platinum recognition at the 11th Asia Integrated Reporting Awards in October, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in integrated and sustainability reporting.
Meralco’s sustainability agenda, Powering the Good Life, launched in 2019, is anchored on four strategic pillars—Power, Planet, People, and Prosperity—and continues to guide the company’s approach to responsible growth, climate resilience, and long-term value creation.
