Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has secured and renewed internationally recognized ISO certifications across its renewable and thermal generation businesses, as the company moves to standardize quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management across its growing power portfolio.
The certifications cover three international management system standards: ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
“These certifications show how MGEN is strengthening governance across its generation portfolio. As we grow both our renewable and thermal businesses, we are making sure that our assets are operated under clear, consistent, and internationally recognized standards,” said MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio.
MGEN Renewables earns first Triple ISO certification
MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGEN Renewables) received its first Triple ISO Certification from TÜV SÜD Philippines, covering its head office and six solar facilities in Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Bulacan, Isabela, Batangas, and Tarlac.
The certification places the company’s geographically dispersed solar portfolio under a unified management system covering quality, environmental performance, and occupational health and safety.
“For MGEN Renewables, this certification is an important step as we scale our solar portfolio. It confirms that our head office and plant teams are working under one system — with the same expectations for quality, environmental management, and workplace safety across all certified sites,” said MGEN Renewables President and CEO Dennis B. Jordan.
Among the certified facilities is the Bongabon Solar project in Nueva Ecija, which MGEN identified as the first Department of Energy Green Energy Auction Program Round 2 (GEA-2) project completed ahead of schedule.
Thermal subsidiaries renew certifications
Meanwhile, MGEN Thermal Energy, Inc. renewed its ISO 9001:2015 certification, while its subsidiaries Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC), Toledo Power Co. (TPC), Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC), and Panay Power Corporation (PPC) successfully renewed certifications for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
The recertifications cover the company’s baseload power plants serving major load centers in Cebu, Iloilo, and nearby areas.
MGEN said the renewed certifications also support its ongoing Best-in-Class program, which seeks to improve operational discipline through standardized systems for plant operations, process management, supply chain, capital planning, workforce development, and performance management across its thermal fleet.
“For MGEN Thermal, these re-certifications reflect the discipline required to operate facilities that support key load centers in the Visayas. These plants play an important role in providing reliable supply, and maintaining these standards helps ensure that we continue to operate responsibly and consistently,” said MGEN Thermal President and CEO Arnel L. Santos.
As of June 2026, the company reported a combined net saleable generation capacity of 5,069.7 megawatts (MW) across traditional and renewable energy assets, alongside battery energy storage systems with a total capacity of 56.4 megawatt-hours (MWh).
As Philippine power companies continue expanding their renewable portfolios while maintaining conventional generation, how important are internationally recognized management standards in improving operational performance and investor confidence?
