Employee volunteers from Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) served hot, nutritious meals to around 3,000 underserved Filipinos in Manila, working alongside community kitchen group Kawa Pilipinas.
The meal-sharing activity reached street dwellers along Kalaw Avenue and caregivers of patients waiting for treatment at the Philippine General Hospital. Volunteers came from Meralco’s Pasay Business Center, Corporate Communications Department, and the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), joined by partners from CIS Bayad Center, Inc.
The initiative forms part of Meralco’s corporate social responsibility work, anchored on its core value of malasakit and its commitment to support vulnerable sectors in areas where it operates.
Meralco Chief CSR Officer and OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao led the activity, distributing meals together with Kawa Pilipinas founder Mae Paner, OMF Program Manager Grace G. Noche, and Meralco Advocacy and Communication Management Head Michelle L. Caguioa.

“For Filipinos, sharing meals is a love language. By sharing these hot, nutritious meals to our fellow Filipinos in need, with our partners in Kawa Pilipinas, we translate ‘malasakit’ into a tangible act of bringing warmth to those who need food the most,” Tarayao said.
Kawa Pilipinas is a volunteer-driven community kitchen founded in 2020 to serve marginalized communities. Since its launch, the group has provided more than 570,000 meals to homeless and urban poor Filipinos across Metro Manila.
Through OMF and its employee volunteer programs, Meralco continues to support initiatives that address immediate needs while strengthening ties with communities it serves.
