The Department of Environmental and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has recognized One Meralco Foundation as a “Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran” partner, citing the group’s environmental sustainability initiatives that include solar electrification and reforestation projects.
The recognition was conferred during the EMB Recognition of Partners held in Quezon City on February 26.
One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), was described by the DENR-EMB as an “invaluable partner” for environmental sustainability.
According to the agency, OMF was acknowledged for initiatives supporting the solar electrification of public schools, agriculture and livelihood facilities, health centers, and water facilities. The foundation has also undertaken reforestation activities in critical mangrove and upland areas, positioning these efforts as long-term investments toward environmental resilience.
OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao received the recognition alongside OMF Program Manager for Environmental Sustainability Patrick Famisaran. The award was presented by DENR Acting Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna, Assistant Secretary Jacqueline Caancan, and Assistant Director Maria Dorica Naz-Hipe.
“This recognition as ‘Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran’ is a testament to the power of our shared purpose. It reinforces our belief that environmental sustainability is not a solo journey, but our collective responsibility. We are not just protecting resources—we are investing in a resilient, greener future for every community we serve,” Tarayao said.
For energy sector stakeholders, the citation underscores the growing intersection between corporate-led electrification programs and national environmental objectives. As distribution utilities and private energy firms expand renewable and community-based initiatives, third-party recognition from regulators such as the DENR-EMB signals alignment with broader sustainability and climate resilience goals.
One Meralco Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Its programs focus on community electrification and energy education, environmental sustainability, grassroots partnerships, youth development, and disaster response. The foundation is accredited by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification and registered as a social welfare and development agency under the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
