A Philippine consortium led by renewable energy platform CS First Green has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Chinese firm TIANNENG to collaborate on a 100-megawatt (MW) solar-plus-storage project, marking another potential entry of large-scale battery storage technology into the country’s growing clean energy market.
The agreement, signed on May 26 in Zhejiang, China, brings together TIANNENG and a consortium of Philippine renewable energy, infrastructure, and finance companies to develop solar and energy storage projects in the country. The first phase of the partnership will focus on a project at the 100-MW scale, according to the companies.
TIANNENG is a China-based battery manufacturer and energy storage systems provider listed in Shanghai and Hong Kong, with core operations spanning power batteries, energy storage systems, and integrated energy solutions.
The partnership will prioritize distributed energy resources (DERs) and microgrid applications aimed at addressing grid fragmentation across the Philippines’ island-based electricity system.
TIANNENG said it will deploy microgrid energy storage solutions designed for voltage stabilization, autonomous off-grid operation, and multi-energy collaborative dispatch, with configurable capacities ranging from 10 MWh to 128 MWh and beyond.
The companies are also targeting longer-term development of gigawatt-scale projects as part of broader efforts to optimize regional energy structures and expand renewable integration.
CS First Green has been expanding its renewable energy footprint in the country. The company is developing utility-scale solar projects in Pangasinan, including proposed facilities in Infanta and Dasol, while also pursuing smaller solar developments through partnerships with electric cooperatives.
What role do you think solar-plus-storage microgrids will play in improving energy access and grid reliability in the Philippines’ island provinces?
