Consumers will see lower transmission-related charges in their June electricity bills after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported a 9.33% decline in overall transmission rates for the May 2026 billing period.
NGCP said the overall average transmission rate fell to PHP 1.4492 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down from PHP 1.5983/kWh in April, driven by lower transmission wheeling and ancillary service (AS) rates.
Transmission wheeling rates, which cover the cost of delivering electricity through the transmission network, declined by 6.99% to PHP 0.5607/kWh from PHP 0.6028/kWh in the previous billing period.
Meanwhile, ancillary service rates fell by 10.73% to PHP 0.7220/kWh from PHP 0.8088/kWh.
Ancillary services refer to reserve power and other support services procured by NGCP to help maintain grid stability and address imbalances between electricity supply and demand.
According to NGCP, the decline in both wheeling and ancillary service charges contributed to the lower transmission rates reflected in consumers’ June electric bills.
The grid operator noted that it charges only 56 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its transmission services, adding that its revenues are regulated and subject to caps set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
With ancillary service costs remaining a significant component of transmission charges, will future reductions in reserve power costs translate into further relief for electricity consumers in the months ahead?
