Aboitiz Power unit sign EPC for BESS project in Laguna

Bay BESS

Aboitiz Power Corporation’s geothermal subsidiary, AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), alongside Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), has partnered with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. Ltd (SDEPCI) for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the Bay Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project.

“The Bay BESS Project is a groundbreaking milestone, being the first-ever BESS and geothermal hybrid system in the Philippines,” said ARI’s chief operating officer (COO).

The company shared that the Bay Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, set in Barangay Bitin, Bay, Laguna, will integrate advanced battery storage technology into APRI’s Makban geothermal plant.

This hybrid system aims to strengthen the plant’s ability to stabilize the Luzon grid, particularly during high-demand periods and power interruptions.

AboitizPower said that the Bay BESS Project could boost the economy by creating more jobs and boosting business development.

“We are excited to be the host of this new investment. It contributes to the country’s energy transition and brings additional value to our host communities,” said APRI president Jeffrey Estrella.

SDEPCI has established itself as a global leader in power plant system design and engineering, managing successful EPC projects in diverse regions including Brazil, Chile, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Cuba, and Mexico.
