AFRY Joins Landmark PH Solar-Battery Project as Technical Advisor

International engineering consultancy AFRY has been appointed as the lender’s technical advisor (LTA) for Terra Solar, a landmark renewable energy project in the country, combining 3,500 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar capacity with 4,500 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage.

The project, led by Terra Solar Philippines Inc., is backed by MGEN Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), the renewable energy subsidiary of Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen).

Spanning six municipalities across the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, the project is expected to be the largest solar-plus-battery installation of its kind in the world. It recently secured one of the largest financing deals in the Philippine energy sector, with AFRY conducting the initial technical due diligence that enabled the project’s bankability.

AFRY will continue to support the project through its next phases. These include construction monitoring, operations and maintenance oversight, as well as annual budget review once operational.

“This transformative project will supply clean, reliable energy to about 2.4 million households and reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 4.3 million tons per year,” AFRY declared in a statement.

The development is scheduled to be completed in two phases, targeting full operation by 2026 and 2027. Once finished, the facility will be connected to the national grid via a 13-kilometer 500kV transmission line.

AFRY’s Regional Director for Asia, Petteri Harkki, in a release published in its website said the company is proud to play a pivotal role in supporting the Philippines’ clean energy transition.

“The Terra Solar initiative represents a significant step forward in supporting the Philippines’ energy roadmap — enhancing energy security, building long-term resilience, and enabling a low carbon future,” Harkki said. “We are excited to contribute our expertise as LTA to a greener future and be part of a project that will deliver lasting environmental and economic benefits.”
