Avion plant fully available for liquid fuel operations

First Gen plants resume operations

(UPDATED) After nearly two months of repairs, First Gen Corporation said that its 97-megawatt Avion power plant in Batangas City has resumed full commercial operations.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the Lopez-led firm said it has completed recommissioning and testing activities of the 48.5MW Unit 2 using liquid fuel.

First Gen said recommissioning and testing activities for gas operations will be conducted once the Malampaya gas field resumes production. Malampaya’s maintenance shutdown ends this Friday.

In another disclosure on Tuesday, the company said that General Electric, the manufacturer of Unit 2’s turbine, completed restoration works.

The damages to the said generator, particularly its compressor, were discovered after a routine check back in August.
