Unit 1 of First Gen Corporation’s 97-megawatt (MW) Avion Power Plant in Batangas City is now partially operating after almost two months of repairs.
“The unit is currently commercially available on natural gas operation but [General Electric (GE)] will continue recommissioning and testing activities using liquid fuel,” First Gen said in its disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday.
Avion’s 48.5MW Unit 1 encountered damages to one of its gas turbines in December last year, just around a month after resuming full operations.
The plant utilizes two GE LM60000 PC dual fuel aero-derivative gas turbines.
Meanwhile, Unit 2 remains fully operational. Unit 2, also with a 48.5MW capacity was likewise damaged in August last year, but resumed operations in October.
Avion is one of the country’s five plants sourcing fuel from the Malampaya gas field in Palawan.
