Just over a month after resuming full operations, First Gen Corporation’s Avion power plant has encountered trouble again, this time with the 48.5-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 sustaining damages.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Lopez-led firm said that the damage to the compressor of one of Unit 1’s two gas turbines was discovered during an inspection.
The Avion power plant features two units that utilize General Electric (GE) LM6000 PC dual fuel aero-derivative gas turbines.
After carefully reviewing the findings, GE has advised First Gen that Unit 1 cannot be operated and will require further onsite assessment to determine the extent of the damage and effect repairs necessary to place the gas turbine back into service.
The firm then assured that the 48.5MW Unit 2, which was found damaged in August and subsequently brought back to service by GE in October, is not affected.
Located in Batangas City, the 97MW Avion plant is one of five facilities feeding on fuel from the Malampaya gas field in Palawan.
